"We set off for La Coruna in Spain, so we could rehearse acoustic playing all over again. The high point was a live concert in the church of San Eduardo there, where we recorded most of the pieces acoustically and live. We only brought together the acoustic & electric approaches together afterwards in the studio in Ronda, Malaga." (Phil)

The first album. Recorded live, with very few overdubs or other electronic wizardry, at the 'instituut voor dans en danspedagogie' (HIDD). Essential to anyone interested in DAAU's unique mixture of styles.
Drieslagstelsels are complex, dynamic compositions created out of improvisation. "Drieslagstelsel 2" became one of the band's signature tunes and a highlight of countless gigs, combined in one miniature symphony with "Suds & Soda".
("grain rotation" principle)
There are two (musically identical) prints of this album. The cover of the original release (on Jack & Johnny Recordings) is fairly simple on the front, and has nude pictures of the band members inside. The cover of the 1996 reissue on Sony Classical (called "Touralbum 1996") confronts you with an appetizing view of a loaf of raw meat.

"Life Transmission" shows the remarkable development the band had gone through in the three years since the previous album. The electronic enhancements to the acoustic sound foundation are a lot more experimental and confident. A long roster of singers -- Angélique Willkie, Ya Kid K, Buni and Simon -- makes this CD the most vocal DAAU album, which actually scored the band a minor hit in Benelux ('Mary Go Round'). But maybe it's pianist Adrian Lenski who leaves the strongest impression on "Life Transmission", contributing orchestral compositions such as "Lampshade" and "Freeze".
For the ensuing 1 1/2 years on the road, DAAU performed as an octet, adding Adrian Lenski, drummer Yanek Kobalski and singers Karoline Kamosi and Gypsi Yilukusu to the line-up.

Nix is just exactly that - a promotional CD single ('not for sale') containing only this one song, Nix.
The song is identical to the album version.
1. Piano Dub (oembwaweebhoewadijabedabetundee remix)
As far as I know, this promotional single was planned for release, but rejected. The remix (onomatopoetically called the oembwaweebhoewadijabedabetundee remix) was done by Phil Evans and is otherwise unreleased. The cover shown here was a concept for the planned release; it was not actually printed.
1. Mary Go Round (radio edit) 4:13
2. Voodoo Sim (album version) 5:57
Columbia, released 2001
A CD single containing a special radio edit of Mary Go Round (featuring singers Karoline & Gypsi) and the album version of Voodoo Sim.
(CD single, Nothing Records 497 273-2, 2000)
The CD contains "Shrunken Man" as performed by: The The, DAAU, John Parish and Foetus. This is really a "various artists" affair. The The asked three other artists to record a version of their song "Shrunken Man". This was (AFAIK) the first DAAU project to feature Adrian Lenski, who had just finished his seven year long study of composition. Simon supplies the vocals; the lyrics include a few lines which would later reappear in the song Freeze.
Jarring Effects FX037
Simon & Buni, Han and Roel play on two tracks on this album, "3 rue Monplaisir" and "Tôt ou tard". Angélique Willkie sings on two other tracks, "Versus" and "Phantom Land".
Buni & Simon Lenski play on the tracks "Trash vs. YLT" and "Happy Hour at the Honkeytonk". To hear these, one has to rewind before the first track, the place of the 'hidden album' "In a Ghosttruck".
Buni & Simon Lenski play on the tracks "Stained Glass" and "Sarah".
Simon & Buni Lenski and Han Stubbe play on "The Nurses Home". Buni plays violin on "Major Oak". Roel Van Camp plays on "Just Walking Dully Along". Think Of One is the band of David Bové who played on the DAAU album "We Need New Animals".
Simon and Buni contribute strings to "Everybody's Friend".
Buni & Simon Lenski play on the title track (and at least one other ?)
This CD contains an otherwise unreleased DAAU song, "No Reality Testing". It is a (brilliant) demo version of "No Rule". An Pierlé, Kamagurka and Gorki are among the other artists who contributed other tracks. The CD can be ordered from the Psychoasis website (which seems to no longer exist).
Roel Van Camp plays on "Circumstances". The track "For Blood Effects In The Mouth" contains a (hardly audible) sample loop taken from a rehearsal featuring Daan Stuyven, Rudy Trouvé, Aarich Jespers and Simon & Buni Lenski.
This album doesn't have any DAAU members on it, but the band is mentioned in the "special thanks" list. DAAU possibly helped Zita Swoon a bit at the beginning of the project, when both bands shared the same rehearsal room. There is even one track on Zita Swoon's EP "The Sound Hobbyist" entitled "I Need New Animals" !
DAAU play on the tracks "Tumbleweed" and "This Is For You".
Simon & Buni Lenski (along with Eva van Riet) play strings on the tracks "A Shiny Future no.2" and "Mandarine". As a cross-reference, Eva van Riet was part of the orchestra you can hear on Life Transmission's "Old Lampshade".
Simon Lenski plays cello on the track "Sister". Both Adrian and Simon are mentioned in the 'thanks' section of the booklet.
Roel Van Camp co-authored the track "Les cheveux de Francoise Hardy". Roel himself doesn't appear on the CD.
Buni, Simon and Roel appear on the song "Blindfold".
This rare CD single contains a version of "Suds & Soda" actually played by DAAU. The song was long a part of DAAU's live repertoire until about 1999, it has been performed only of handful of times since then.
The track can also be found (in MP3 format) on the dEUS DVD "No More Videos".
Buni plays violin on the song "The Girl With The Golden Teeth". This is a really weird album. According to the Belpop archive's Soul Sucker page, the single of that song sold a total of 11 copies when released in August 1996.
shut up & eat! records 003, 1996
Han Stubbe plays clarinet on the track "Iki".
Carte Postale Records CAP16
Simon Lenski plays cello on the track "I Do". Around the time of the album release, Simon and Buni also played live with Mintzkov Luna a couple of times.
Buni Lenski plays violin on the tracks "Guitar Jesus" and "Elephant Crossing".
