All this yurk reunion tour talk is so exciting - I phoned my mom back in massachusetts & sent her rooting through those 16 cartons of vinyl in
her basement looking for my old yurk stuff. Here's what she's found so far (official releases & bootlegs):
- GET YER YURK-YURKS OUT
basically the same material as the boot YURK R THAN YOU'LL EVER BE, but this official release
was suppressed by bob dylan's lawyers after they realized that the cover art portrayed jewels
& binoculars hanging from the neck of a mule (nobody ever accused those yurks of having an
original creative concept)
- ARE WE NOT YURKS?
execrable attempt to get on the new wave bandwagon in the late '70s
remember the inverted paint cans on their heads?
quite possibly the nadir of the yurks' career
- YURK SIDE OF THE MOON
official album, dedicated to former member sidney yurk, who spun out of control from drinking
too much bootleg schnapps & wound up dozin' & droolin' in a west berlin rest home
- HIGHWAY TO HECK
stupid attempt at death metal, marketed as an evolution of their reknowned feedback
experiments, fell flat on its face when none of the now-aging yurks could squeeze their fat
german asses into the requisite tight leather pants for the tour
- YURKS UNPLUGGED
this late-period release could have been a hit, but the dumb yurks thought it meant hair plugs
& the sight of all those shiny bald domes on the cd cover turned off even their oldest fans
- YURK ON THE RUN
the popular misconception is that this was a solo album by vocalist paolo yurk, made after
guitarist yianni yurk's girlfriend sashimi mimi temporarily broke up the original band
it was in fact a slapdash effort to raise legal fees by ex-member lemmie yurk, who threw it
together in several southern bavaria studios while on the lam from a nasty child-molestation
charge. turned out he was a belgian after all

few fans knew that pianist marvin yurk was the musical director for this historic
mother-daughter appearance, the recording of which became the biggest selling LP by a yurk
I can't wait to get a turntable again & start spinning these old gems . . .
does anyone have that rare yurk tape, "yurk live at the sands hotel -- las vegas" from 1966? the sands las vegas shows were distinguished by the fact that sammy davis jr guested, singing
on a long jammed-out scat version of "that old black magic" & tap-dancing to the "love theme
from valley of the yurk" on the last night of the run.
The road does indeed go on forever.
